- There are actually 353 Marching Virginians.
- 101 members are entering freshmen, and 9 are graduate students.
- Members represent seven colleges within the University and The
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
- The 2007 Marching Virginians represent 16 states. 75% of the MVs are from
Virginia.
- The Marching Virginians will perform at seven home games and one away game
during the 2007 season season.
- The band rehearses 90 minutes daily in order to prepare a different show for
each 2007 home performance.
- Each show requires over 5,000 man-hours, resulting in a total of 35,000 hours
(four years) on the marching field.
- Marching Virginians will march over 65,000 miles, or three times around the world,
in any season.
- On the field for a halftime show, there are an average of 330 people, $300,000
worth of school instruments, 3,200 separate uniform parts, and about 16,000 combined years of musical
experience.
- The Marching Virginians march 14 different kinds of instruments. These include piccolos, alto and
tenor saxes, mellophones, sousaphones, and 5 types of percussion instruments. We also feature a flag corps,
2 twirlers, and 2 drum majors.
- Daily operations are managed by a student staff selected by the band leadership.
- The library staff will copy and distribute over 14,000 pieces of music during the
season.
- Service to the band is provided by Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, National
Honorary Band Fraternity and Sorority.
- Director of The Marching Virginians, David McKee, has now been immortalized into
his very own "bobble head" character.
